A brief look back

Two generations and counting...
Ever since I was a kid all I wanted to do was play with cars, at first it was my dads cars and bikes on our driveway, then when I was 14 years old I got a Saturday job at a local MOT garage! Through out my childhood I went to watch oval racing, I was fascinated! I also raced 1:10 scale remote control cars in various groups around the county.

When I left school on the Friday the following Monday I had a full time job at the MOT station I’d been Saturday boy at.  Later on this would be the place where I started my apprenticeship to gain my level 3 motor vehicle repair qualification.

It soon became apparent that MOT’s and general maintenance wasn’t my thing so I started looking for a better suited job. I found a company called Black and White Engines, a small company that built race engines for Jaguar club race cars, as well as building and maintaining a fleet of race cars. I got the job and started there when I was 19 years old. I was dropped in the deep end building and tuning on the dyno straight 6 and v12 race engines and race cars! I was in my element! Obviously RWD high powered cars was all that mattered to me! This is when I got my first Nissan 200sx S14a, it perfectly fitted the criteria at the time, RWD, manual, turbo and I had to be able to insure it at the age of 19!

Buying that car had the biggest curveball in the direction my life took from there on, it introduced me to drifting, forums and like minded people.
It all snowballed from there and all of a sudden my drifting career (I say career, more a hobby) had started! Along with it due to my crazy car and builds came the demand for my services.

This was all around the time the 2008 recession hit, it wiped out Black and White Engines as racing was not a necessity, part of my redundancy was the remaining Jaguar customers and the workshop equipment. That’s when I started my own company “S-Body automotive” at the age of only 24. I worked at this for 4 years but struggled to make things work, mainly because I was too young and my life was consumed by drifting.

In 2013 another small company called Autotorque moved into a unit next door, as they got busier I found my self doing more and more of their overflow work and eventually in a full time placement with Autotorque. A whopping 7 years passed and I found my self working my way up to head technician.

2019 and it was time to move on, figuring out that I wanted to focus my career more on bench building engine, gearbox’s and components rather than working on cars. At the start of 2020 I got a placement at Mercedes AMG F1 in the engine department, this never worked out due to COVID-19 they dropped 700 or so contractors.

So here we are, half way through 2020 and I’m starting my own thing again, much more focused and grown up........
